Recently, the State Association and Union announced the tournament brackets for the upcoming baseball and softball playoffs. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team is the No. 1 seed in Class 2A District 9. The Hawks are 22-6 this season, 16-1 champions of the River Valley Conference. They are ranked No. 2 in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Their draw is a River Valley Conference tournament, minus Iowa City Regina, with the Golden Hawks getting set to take on the winner of 9-15 Wilton and 6-16 Tipton in the district semifinals, following a bye, both of whom they have not lost to this year. The other side of bracket features West Liberty, Durant and West Branch, all teams Mid-Prairie has swept. District 10 includes area school Winfield-Mt. Union who will start the tournament trail against Louisa-Muscatine with the winner playing top seed Van Buren. Also involved are Mediapolis, Central Lee and West Burlington.

The Mid-Prairie girls are 14-16 this year, 11-6 in the River Valley, fourth place. They have drawn into Class 3A Region 6 as the five seed. They will travel to 17-15 Center Point-Urbana who is 8-8, fourth place in the WAMAC West Conference. The winner of that contest advances to take on either defending state champion Mount Vernon who is 23-9 or 8-21 Vinton-Shellsburg. Also in the Regional are No. 11 Benton, Oelwein, Sumner-Fredericksburg and New Hampton.

The Hillcrest Academy boys are 18-4 on the season, undefeated champions of the North Division of the Southeast Iowa Superconference at 12-0. They are the top seed in Class 1A District 10. The Ravens open the playoffs Saturday hosting 1-17 Lone Tree who they swept in the regular season. The winner of that contest would take on the winner of area school Keota at 10-11 and Pekin in the District semifinals. Also in District 10 are area school Sigourney, with their 15-6 record, who opens the tournament at home against Danville and Iowa City Regina who faces Wapello. Looking out at the Substate level District 9 brings in area school Highland with their 10-13 record. The Huskies open the playoffs at home against New London Saturday. The winner of that game meets the top seed No. 8 Burlington Notre Dame in the semis. The rest of the District includes Moravia, Moulton-Udell, North Mahaska and Twin Cedars.

The Raven girls start the 1A tournament on the road Friday at Tri-County in the opening round of Region 8. They come in with a  7-16 record, the Trojans are 10-8. The winner takes on second seed English Valleys in the quarterfinals. The Bears are 16-6. Other teams in the regional include top seed and No. 8 ranked Sigourney. The Savages have an opening round bye. In the quarterfinals they will take on the winner of Holy Trinity Catholic and New London. Winfield-Mt. Union matches up with Wapello in the first round. The Wolves are 4-15 and the Arrows 20-9. In an area rivalry game, Highland hosts Lone Tree to open their regional run. The Huskies are 17-10, the Lady Lions 9-15. The Keota Eagles start the postseason at Moravia.
