The KCII Severe Weather Action Team took the air Thursday morning for a severe weather warning issued for Washington County and southeast Iowa. At 10:15 am Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of Washington, Henry, Keokuk, and Jefferson Counties until 11 am. The main threat with this storm was high winds up to 60 miles per hour, hail, and torrential rainfall. This warning was re-issued for Washington, Keokuk, and Jefferson Counties until 11:45 a.m. Reports of 50-mile-per-hour wind gusts from the Washington, Fairfield, and Ottumwa airports were documented. One inch of rain fell in an hour or less in Washington, Brighton, and Wayland. Alliant Energy reports roughly 3800 customers without power in Jefferson County as of noon on Thursday.
