The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team finishes their regular season run tonight when they travel to Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids for a top ten showdown with Cascade. The Golden Hawks are 24-6 overall, 17-1 champions of the South Division of the River Valley Conference. The Hawks have won 12 straight games after taking down Tipton 19-1 in just five innings on the road Thursday. Mid-Prairie is ranked No. 2 in Class 2A in the latest poll issued by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. The Golden Hawks are hitting .306 as a team with 212 runs on 246 hits. Karson Grout is the individual leader with a .436 average on 41 hits with 34 driven in. Cain Brown has scored a team best 33 times. On the mound, the Mid-Prairie ERA is 2.69 with a .221 opponent average on 170 hits, 77 earned runs, 87 walks and 208 strikeouts. Golden Hawk starters Alex Bean, Brady Weber, Brock Harland and Collin Miller are a combined 19-1 with a two ERA.

Cascade is 21-7 this season, 10-2, second place in the RVC North Division, winners of nine straight including a doubleheader sweep of Clayton Ridge Thursday by 13-3 and 11-1 scores. The Cougars are ranked No. 7 in this week’s Class 2A poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. They are hitting .336 as a team with 229 runs on 265 hits. Mason Otting is at .407 individually to lead. Cooper Hummel has 36 hits and 24 RBI and Cass Hoffman 35 runs, all team bests. On the mound, the Cougar ERA is 3.08 as a group with a .203 opponent average on 169 hits, 80 earned runs, 99 walks, and 136 strikeouts. Caden Rausch, Eli Fritz and Mick Hoffman are a combined 10-0 with a 1.77 ERA. These teams met in last year’s Class 2A State quarterfinals in Carroll where the Golden Hawks scored a 3-2 win.
