The Hillcrest Academy softball season reached its end in Thornburg Friday, as the Ravens were eliminated from post-season play by Tri-County 10-0 in six innings.
The Trojans struck first in the opening frame, however Hillcrest was able to cut down a runner at the plate to keep the score 1-0. It would remain a one-run game until the fourth, when Tri-County plated five runners to widen the gap. Three in the fifth and one more in the sixth closed things out for the Trojans, who move on to play English Valleys in the next round of regional action.
While Hillcrest threatened multiple times throughout the contest, the pitching of Tri-County senior Delanie Little thwarted any opportunity for the Ravens to get back into it. Little allowed just two hits coming from Malia Yoder and Claire Withrow, as she tossed a six inning shutout, striking out nine Hillcrest batters in the win.
Yoder added six punch-outs Friday night to a season in which she became just the third Raven pitcher in the program’s history to surpass the 100 strikeout mark. The future is bright for Hillcrest softball, as all nine starters are primed to return in 2024.
