The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves knocked off the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons 11-3 Friday night in the first round of the Class 2A District 10 baseball playoffs. After trailing 1-0 through the first two innings, WMU scored three runs in the third and fourth frames each, and after Louisa-Muscatine scored twice in the fifth, five runs in the sixth put the Wolves in command.
Senior Grant Watson led Winfield-Mount Union with three hits and two runs scored. Junior Cole Milks had just one hit, but it was a big one, swatting a home run on his way to four runs batted in. Sophomore Lane Genkinger also had a three-hit game for WMU.
Senior Andrew Brown pitched a complete game and gave up seven hits while only walking one batter and striking out three. The Wolves improve to 6-13 and move on to the District 10 semifinals. Winfield-Mount Union will face Van Buren County in the next round of the playoffs Wednesday night.
