The Washington Demons wrapped up the softball regular season on a high note, winning a pair of games during a home doubleheader yesterday against Louisa-Muscatine. Washington scored twice in the first inning and five times in the second, ultimately seizing an 8-0 lead before Louisa-Muscatine ever scored in game one and going on to win 12-2.

The top of the Demon lineup did serious damage in game one. Freshman Leighton Salazar had two triples and two singles and scored three times in the lead-off spot, while sophomore Ella Greiner came up with a double as part of her three hits and finished with three runs scored and five runs batted in from the two hole.

Eighth grader Colbie Greiner put up two hits and two RBI batting cleanup, and sophomore Alyvia Anderson swatted a double as part of a three-hit, four-RBI night while batting fifth.

Despite Washington scoring two runs again in the first frame, game two was a much more tight-knit affair. A 6-0 lead for the Demons going into the sixth inning nearly crumbled away, but Washington held off Louisa-Muscatine’s late rally to defeat the Falcons 6-4.

Salazar posted another two hits and scored two more runs to extend her 13-game hitting streak, while Ella Greiner doubled for one of her two hits and drove in three runs to push her hitting streak to a whopping 24 games.

Colbie Greiner mashed her fifth home run of the season and had three RBI as the Demons finish the regular season with a record of 23-12. Washington is off until the postseason begins Thursday. The Demons face Central Lee in the Class 3A Region 8 quarterfinals Thursday night, a game you can hear on 106.1 FM KCII starting at 6:30.
