The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team opens the district tournament tonight hosting River Valley Conference rival Wilton. The Golden Hawks are 25-6 on the season, they finished 17-1, champions of the RVC. Mid-Prairie is ranked No. 2 in the final Class 2A poll of the year, issued by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Mid-Prairie was last in action Friday, topping No. 7 Cascade 2-1 at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids. The Hawks are hitting .305 as a team with 214 runs on 252 hits. Karson Grout paces Mid-Prairie at .448 with 43 total hits and 35 RBI. Cain Brown has 33 runs scored. The Golden Hawk staff has an ERA of 2.63 with a .219 opponent average on 174 hits, 78 earned runs, 90 walks and 213 strikeouts. Mid-Prairie starters Brock Harland, Brady Weber, Collin Miller and Alex Bean are 20-1 with a two ERA.
Wilton is 12-17 this year. They finished 5-13, fifth in the RVC. They won a first round game Saturday 4-3 over Tipton to advance. This year the Beavers are hitting .249 as a group with 133 runs on 171 hits. Cade Sourhada is at .359 with 28 hits and 22RBI to lead the way. Owen Hassell has scored 20 runs. The Wilton staff has posted a 3.72 ERA with a .204 opponent average on 173 hits, 94 earned runs, 115 walks and 202 strikeouts. Landyn Putman has a team best three wins, Kane Willey has a 2.37 ERA. The Golden Hawks swept the season series from Wilton, winning all three by a combined 27-4 score and have beaten the Beavers eight straight times. The winner of this contest will play for the District 9 Championship Saturday.
