The Washington Demons saw their 2023 baseball season draw to a close with a 10-0 loss to Davenport Assumption in the Class 3A Substate 4 quarterfinals Friday night. Assumption scored twice right away in the first inning to seize the lead, and while Washington held them at bay until another two runs came across in the fourth, a six-run fifth allowed the Knights to end the game early.

The only hit of the night for the Demons came from sophomore outfielder Aaron Boone. Senior pitcher Isaac Vetter got the start and gave up just two earned runs on four hits in three innings while striking out three. Washington completes the season with a record of 4-23. The Demons will now see five seniors depart in Vetter, Ethan Patterson, James Strabala, Austin Rebling and Brian Fritz.
