mental-health-2

On Thursday, August 10, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will be providing mental health first aid training in Wellman. The instructor-led program will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wellman-Parkside YMCA.

Research from the National Institute of Mental Health shows that nearly 1 in 5 adults lives with a mental illness. The program will provide participants with tools they can use to identify when someone in their life may be struggling with mental health and/or substance use problems. They will also learn how to connect with people to appropriate support and resources when necessary. A five-step action plan will be taught to guide participants through the process of reaching out and offering support.

Thanks to a Project Recovery Iowa Grant, the training is free, and open to all adults 18 years or older. Lunch will be provided by the Ann C. Williams Farm Bureau Financial Services. The training is limited to 30 individuals. For more information, contact Dawn Dunnegan at 319-217-9474 or the Washington County Extension Office at 319-653-4811. To register, click here.
