Justin Walker is a Deputy with the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office. When the school year begins in August, Walker will take on the role of School Resource Deputy for the Columbus Community School District.

Walker began his career in law enforcement about three years ago as a Reserve Officer with the Wapello Police Department. He continued his work as the Department merged with the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office last April. When the position for the CCSD Resource Deputy opened up, Walker jumped at the opportunity.

When asked what he hopes to bring to the role, Walker tells KCII, “[I want to] bring that positive outlook that law enforcement is here to help out, be that person that a kid can come to, be that advocate so if a kid is having an issue they can come to me and we can get through it.”

With Walker’s presence in their building, Columbus joins fellow Louisa County schools, Wapello and Louisa-Muscatine, with a full time Resource Deputy. While working with Kody Aplara with Wapello, Walker was impressed with the reception that the school’s Resource Officer receives. “You get on scene and he’s like a superstar. It’s pretty cool to see the kids, they all enjoy him being around.”

With the school year just weeks away, Walker is continuing his certifications, including ALICE Training. He also plans to enter the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in August.
