The Washington City Council approved two tax abatements under the Washington Urban Revitalization Plan at their most recent meeting. The first was for property located at 120 E. Main St. which is the location of Greiner Buildings. Mayor Pro Tem Mille Youngquist gave this insight. “We had this on our last agenda, if you remember, and we hadn’t received the official word that they were going through with this, and now we have that signed application.” The second tax abatement was for 512 S 15th Ave., a new construction. Tax abatement is a temporary reduction in property taxes on the portion of assessed value added by new construction or improvements to an existing structure.
