Last month, WACO High School student, Zoey Dennler, attended the 2023 Session of the American Legion Auxiliary Iowa Girls State. The session was held at Drake University in Des Moines.

Dennler represented Elgin Legion Auxiliary Unit #352. A member since 2008, she has a strong family background in both the military as well as the Auxiliary. Girls in attendance at the session heard from many guest speakers, including the American Legion Auxiliary National President and Lt. Governor Adam Gregg. In addition to the variety of activities, Dennler was elected to the Senate and was Senate President.

The American Legion Auxiliary Iowa Girls State was started by four women over 75 years ago with the hope of teaching young women about the political process. Participants must be between their junior and senior year of high school and are selected by their local Auxiliary Unit.
