Following the retirement of both County Assessor Cathy Smith and Chief Deputy Assessor Andrea Bowen earlier this month, the Louisa County Board of Supervisors is seeking replacements to fill the roles.
Normally the Chief Deputy Assessor would assume the duties in the absence of County Assessor, but with vacancies in both positions, the responsibility falls to Louisa County Auditor, Selena Gerst. While Smith, who held the Assessor title for six years, notified the Supervisors of her retirement last year, the process for selecting a replacement in rural towns can take time.
Certain legal guidelines dictate acceptable candidates, including required certifications and other course work. More than one dozen applications submitted for the County Assessor position were disqualified as a result. While Gerst handles the appraisal operations and services for the County in the meantime, the position remains open. To apply for the Louisa County Assessor position, click here.
