As construction continues this summer at East Elementary and Mid-Prairie Middle School, the Mid-Prairie Community School District continues to address facility needs.

At their meeting on July 10, a long-range facilities plan was presented to the school board by facility advisory committee members Matt Gent and Ryan Schlabaugh. The plan includes such needs as additional classroom space and a new HVAC system at West Elementary, addressing parking and traffic challenges at East and West Elementary, and a new district multipurpose wrestling and activity center for future flexibility.

The total cost for the plan is $8.7 million. While this amount would be tax-neutral, it would require a special election to allow the district to utilize General Obligation Bonds. A petition is circulating through the community, and needs 272 signatures to put the bond up for a vote. Only residents of the Mid-Prairie Community School District who are eligible to vote can sign the petition, and the election would be held on November 7.
