The Highland Huskies did their best work on the baseball diamond in conference play this season, going 8-4 and finishing second place in their division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference. Other coaches clearly took notice, as Highland ends up with six selections to the all-conference teams in the Super Conference North.
Two Highland players were unanimous choices to the first team, including senior Ethan Paisley. The pitcher put up a minuscule 1.02 earned-run average this season, the fourth-lowest in the Super Conference North.
The right-hander piled up 102 strikeouts in just under 69 innings on the mound and allowed a rate of walks and hits per innings pitched of just 0.86. Paisley also had a strong year with the bat, posting a team-high .358 batting average and 29 hits on his way to scoring 19 runs and swiping 26 bases.
Infielder William Dunbar was the other unanimous first-team selection after the sophomore hit .333 with team highs of 21 runs scored and 34 stolen bases. Senior Tyler Thompson led the Huskies with 20 runs batted in and swatted seven doubles and a home run on his way to second-team-outfielder status.
Peyton Yeggy makes the second team in his senior season. As a pitcher, Yeggy had a 2.31 ERA and racked up 52 strikeouts in over 36 innings of work. The senior also batted .260 with three doubles, a homer and 17 RBI. Honorable mention went to eighth-grader Garrett Beeson, who had a .975 fielding percentage as the starting catcher, and sophomore Logan McFarland.
