With the building site prepped at 410 North Locust Street in Winfield, Henry County Habitat for Humanity is gearing up for construction of their 30th home. The first build day for the house begins at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Volunteers will start setting walls on the home, which will take approximately 7 months to complete. Both skilled and unskilled workers are welcome to assist with additional tasks such as setting trusses, shingling, siding, installing doors, windows, trim and cabinets, clearing work spaces, and delivering water to the workers. All volunteers must be 16 years or older and are required to sign a waiver.

For those unable to assist in the building process, HCHH is holding a Stuff the Truck event from 10 a.m. to noon tomorrow at the Mt. Pleasant Christian School parking lot. Operations Manager for HCHH, Lisa Diener tells KCII about the event, “We partner with the ReStore out of Fairfield, Iowa. They bring one of their trucks over to the parking lot of the Christian school. People in the community are able to bring certain items to the truck. It could be building materials. They take furniture, patio furniture, just a variety of things. They will put it on their truck and then our affiliate will receive 30 percent of the sales price. That money goes towards building the next house.”

Anyone interested in volunteering for the Winfield build can contact Diener at 319-931-0656.
