The Washington County Board of Supervisors heard the quarterly report from Washington County General Assistance and Veterans Affairs during their Tuesday meeting. Sue Rich, County Veterans Service Officer, gives an overview of the reports. “It shows that for this last fiscal year, we spent $3,436.60 through the General Assistance Program. We had thirty-nine applications for assistance. Rent and a couple utilities and then provisions is where we spent the money. The VA and that’s on this report, showing that we spent $4,109.95 last fiscal year. And it looks like we did that for rent, utilities and provisions along with grave markers. That’s a total of nineteen applications for county assistance.” General Assistance Services provides assistance on a temporary basis for a limited period of time. It can be used to pay for basic needs that include rent/lot rent; utilities-gas, electric, and water; burial; and food vouchers.
