We’re continuing our KCII Top 10 Countdown of the biggest Washington High School sports stories of 2022-2023. At number 8 is the Demon girls’ soccer team having their winningest season in program history.

By defeating Mediapolis 3-0 in the Class 1A Region 4 quarterfinals on May 17th, Washington earned its 11th win of the spring. Not only did the Demons have just the second winning season in school history secured, but they guaranteed themselves to do one better than the record 10 wins they earned in 2022.

Behind nine goals scored by freshman Angie Anderson; eight scored by junior Audrey Anderson; seven goals and four assists from junior Giselle Marcelino; and a stingy defense that gave up only 22 goals in the first 16 matches, the Demons started the season 6-1 and went on to finish the campaign with a record of 11-6.
