Four area teams sent shooters to the Iowa Trap Championships earlier this summer. At the varsity level, the top area team finish went to the Golden Hawk Shooting Club with an 852, placing 146th of 213 competing teams. Leading individuals included Alexa Huber with a 188 to finish 275th out of more than 1,900 competitors. Other varsity Hawks included Quinn Callahan at 187, Milo Sieren 176, Payton Peck 170 and Paytin Swartzentruber 131. The Highland Shooting Sports squad had two teams post scores, with Highland 2 firing a 693 to place 192nd and Highland V1 a 692 to play 193rd. Individual Highland varsity competitors included Tyler Hoppman with a top round of 187 and 366th place finish. Also shooting varsity for Highland were Isaac Kleese 181, Brayden Johnston 178, William Dunbar 176, Landon Simon and Louis Horak 173, Tristin Richardson 172, Nicolas Oriano 170, Remington Fields 162, Colten Sypherd 161 and Jackson Schneider 159. The Warrior Trap Club from WACO was 195th as a team with a 685 combined scored. Noah Conley had the best day with a 193 for 126th place. Others included Wyatt Dennis 180, Autumn Sky 161 and Kaden Read 151.

The Sigourney-Keota Savage Shooting Club didn’t post a varsity team score but had the highest area individual finisher with Jax Weber 62nd with a 195. Other varsity shooters for the Savages included Dylan Renner 188, Isaac Striegel 184 and Dawson Meyer 159.

In the junior varsity ranks, the Golden Hawk Shooting Club was 44th of 92 teams with an 828. Competitors included Landon Kuenster with a 182, Keatyn Myers 171, Tate Bombei 168, Maddie Sieren 159, Allie Whetstine 148, Dylan Humphrey 124 and Rylee Cady 88. Highland Shooting Sports posted a 735 team score to place 63rd. Highland competitors included Sawyer Shalla at 181, Sandra Edwards and Ty Powers at 147 each, Keaton Von Schoyck 144, Jonathan Jackson 138 and Wyatt Richardson 116. SK didn’t post a team JV score but did have a group compete, led by Hunter Sieren at 180 with Gavin Khali at 163, Cael O’Rourke 158 and Jolie Wehr 150.

The State Championships were held in Cedar Falls in June.
