We’re continuing our KCII Top 10 Countdown of the biggest Washington High School sports stories of 2022-2023. At number 6 is Demon cross country runner Micah Rees’ dominant season.
By finishing 13th at the Class 3A state championships in Fort Dodge on October 29th, Rees completed a near-perfect season by earning a medal in every one of his races this fall. The junior finished the state race in 16 minutes 26 seconds one week after taking runner-up honors at districts with a career-best time that was one second shy of 16 minutes flat.
Rees was the 2023 individual Southeast Conference boys’ champion and at one point won four straight races, but he would also continue his success in the spring by helping the Demons qualify for state track & field in three different events.
The countdown of Top 10 Washington sports stories will continue Monday. Find the stories every day as they are announced at KCIIradio.com.
