We’re continuing our KCII Top 10 Countdown of the biggest Washington High School sports stories of 2022-2023. At number 5 is five Demon wrestlers qualifying for the Iowa state championships.

The most dominant season on the mat for Washington belonged to sophomore Aaron Boone. The 120-pounder finished the regular season ranked fourth in Class 2A in his weight class and won the District 9 championship on his home floor on February 11th to earn his 40th win of the season and reach state.

Boone won his first bout at the 2A state meet in Des Moines before losing in the second round, but two pins, a technical knockout and a victory by decision guaranteed he would finish on the medal stand.

Among the four other Demons to make it to state, senior Curtis Stender won the District 9 title at 195 lbs, while junior Chase Greiner was the runner-up at 160, as was freshman Caden Greiner at 132. Teegan Sulentich concluded her career by representing Washington at the girls’ state championships in Corralville. The senior took second place at 155 at her regional qualifying meet.
