The eighth biggest story from the last school year in Hillcrest Academy athletics takes us to the volleyball court and into history class, as a pair of Raven sophomores put their name among the best in program history.

Malia Yoder recorded a 22 kill night in a five set loss at Cedar Valley Christian October 4th, 2022. That number ties her for eighth on the all-time list for kills in a single match with Amanda Skow, who accomplished the feat twice, once each in 2001 and 2002, Jenna Skow who did it in 2003, and Amy Yoder from 1990.

Kylee Statler posted a nine ace performance from the service line at Hillcrest Union September 20th in a victory over Rivermont Collegiate. That’s tied for the fourth highest total for a single match in Raven history with Megan Schrock from a match in 2006.

Both players earned honors from the Southeast Iowa Superconference with Yoder receiving a second team selection at utility and Statler honorable mention. Hillcrest ended the year with a 4-24 overall record.

Thursday our top 10 countdown continues with a trip through the Raven winter sport record books.
