Hillcrest Union was rocking last year for another season of Raven basketball as we highlight our seventh biggest athletic story at Hillcrest Academy in the last school year. Three Ravens, two girls and a boy found their way onto the pages of the school record books as many individuals took home awards.

Raven sophomore Malia Yoder had a season that ranked fifth in school history for blocks with 20.

Hillcrest freshman Claire Withrow was deadly from distance this season, knocking down 38 three pointers, sixth for a single season in Raven history.

Sophomore Seth Ours knocked down a team high 55 threes, seventh most in school history for a single year.

Five Raven boys earned All-Conference honors. Senior Grant Bender was a unanimous first team All-League selection. He led the Ravens with 423 points this year, third in the Superconference, finishing his career with more than 900. His 57 steals were fourth in conference, his 56% field goal percentage sixth in the league, with 137 boards, ninth in conference. Bender was also named All-Substate, Academic All-State, and participated in the Southeast Iowa Boys All-Star Game.

Ours was also a first team choice. He shot at a 39% rate from downtown, eighth highest in the Superconference. His 270 total points were also eighth most in the league to go along with 63 rebounds, 44 assists and 37 steals.

Senior Luke Schrock was a second team all-conference pick. Schrock poured in 259 points this season, tenth most in the Superconference. His 57 steals were tied for the team lead and fourth in the league. His 70 assists were best for the Ravens and ninth in conference. Schrock took part in the Southeast Iowa Boys All-Star Game.

Two Seniors were honorable mention selections. Jace Rempel finished with 71 points, 55 assists, 42 rebounds and 22 steals. Josiah Beachy posted 62 boards, 59 points, 37 assists and 27 steals.

The Hillcrest boys were 12-11 overall this year, 10-6, third place in the Superconference North.

A trio of Hillcrest Academy girls basketball players were honored.

Yoder was a second team Superconference selection. She finished with 159 points, 77 rebounds, 55 steals, 10th in the SEISC, and 39 assists.

Sophomore Lydia Beachy and freshman Withrow were honorable mention choices. Beachy put together a season of 71 rebounds, 31 points and 14 assists. Withrow scored a team best 192 points, with 62 rebounds and 23 steals.

The Ravens finished with an 0-20 overall record.
