After several days of temperatures approaching triple digits last week, drought conditions worsened in a majority of the KCII listening area, according to the National Drought Mitigation Center.
Iowa and Johnson Counties have seen severe drought conditions return for the first time in the last two weeks. Severe drought is present in 50.31 percent of Iowa County, while the entirety of Johnson County has been classified as severe.
While it has gone unchanged in the last week, Jefferson County is the only other in the area with the 100 percent in at least a severe drought. The northwest corner of the county continues to experience extreme drought, as does the southern 13 percent of Keokuk County.
Meanwhile, a majority of Washington, Louisa, and Henry Counties are under severe drought conditions. Severe drought in Washington County grew from 63.66 percent last week to 99.88 this week. Louisa County is close behind, coming in at 97.52 percent severe drought, while Henry County went unchanged, still at 87.82 percent.
