At the Washington City Council meeting on Tuesday, a discussion was had in regards to adopting a fee for fulfilling public records requests from the City. City Attorney Kevin Olson explains the fees, “Twenty-five cents per page for black and white, fifty cents per page for color copies. The second part of that is what I call the gathering fee, you can charge for an employee’s time to gather the records up, but you can only charge for their actual salary; you can’t charge for any fringe benefits. Anything under thirty minutes for gathering, there’s not going to be any charge for that. Third one is legal review; only the legal fees that would be actually charged to the city would be added on to the records request. And it’s only for looking to make sure confidential information is not provided as part of the public record request.” The Council approved the resolution for the fees for fulfilling public records requests unanimously.
