Summer has been spent hard at work for Mid-Prairie athletic programs. Since school wrapped up the Golden Hawk volleyball, boys basketball, and football teams have all put in time at camps.

The Golden Hawk volleyball program has had a busy last few weeks. The Hawks went to a team camp at Central College in Pella July 30th through August 1st. The Hawks faced stout competition and compiled a 7-2 record overall, including a 15-6 set record during their time on campus. Mid-Prairie then hosted their camp at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman August 2nd through the 4th. This was open for players second grade through seniors. Work focused on skills, fundamentals, contests and games under the direction of the current high school coaching staff led by head coach Sherry Evans and Ben Bahr, former University of Iowa, Baylor, SMU, USA Tech and HP Coach. Around 70 kids attended camp. The Hawks have also spent time in the offseason in open gym sessions.

The Mid-Prairie boys basketball program hosted their annual camp in June for players in third through eighth grade. More than 50 students participated. Under the direction of head coach Daren Lambert and his high school staff along with current Golden Hawk players, campers worked on fundamentals including dribbling, shooting and defending in both individual and group settings.

The Golden Hawk football program held their annual camp at Mid-Prairie High School Monday through Thursday last week. In a pair of sessions daily, players fifth grade through senior worked on technique of fundamentals, position specific drills, teamwork activities and skill competitions under the direction of new head coach Daren Lambert and his staff. More than 80 student athletes attended.

The Golden Hawk football team has their first live action Friday, August 18th when they host West Liberty at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman for their annual Gator Bowl scrimmage before officially opening the season August 25th at home against Wilton. The Golden Hawk volleyball team starts the campaign with scrimmages at Xavier, Wilton and Grinnell August 10th, 16th and 17th before the official season opener against Washington, August 24th. Mid-Prairie boys basketball will begin the year at their home jamobree November 20th.
