Last Wednesday, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, in partnership with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, announced funding for six public lakes in the State. One of these is Lake Geode in Henry County.

In total, $9,966 will be given between the Des Moines and Henry County Soil and Water Conservation Districts. These funds, as part of the Publicly Owned Lakes program, are to be used for conservation practices on land within the watersheds above lakes and reservoirs to enhance and protect the water quality. Eligible practices include soil conservation and water quality practices that reduce nutrient loss and sediment delivery to the lake.

This year, just over $580,000 is being distributed through the Publicly Owned Lakes program. Additional bodies of water receiving funds include the Clarke County Reservoir, Lake Icaria, Lake Miami, Three Mile Lake, and Twelve Mile Lake.
