One of the best baseball players in the South Iowa Cedar League has received some of the highest honors for his excellent season. Sigourney sophomore Caden Clarahan has been selected third team all-state as a pitcher in Class 1A by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Clarahan was a dominant pitcher for the Savages this summer. The sophomore had a 7-2 record and an earned-run average of only 1.47. In 57 innings on the mound, Clarahan allowed only 19 total runs on 40 hits and 20 walks. He also piled up a team-high 87 strikeouts and posted a walks & hits per innings pitched of 1.05.
Clarahan also gave Sigourney plenty of juice at the plate, leading the lineup with a .486 batting average and 30 runs batted in. Clarahan swatted nine doubles and six home runs, both team highs, on his way to tying for the team lead with 35 total hits. He also coaxed out a team-high 23 walks for the Savages, proving to be a key cog in an 18-7 season.
