At the Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, discussion was had on a request from the Coalition Against Bigger Trucks. Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius explains further, “So a couple of weeks ago, Jack had received a letter from the Coalition Against Bigger Trucks. There’s a request there for a letter to support the request for Congress not to increase weights for bigger trucks. Recently, last May I believe it was there were a couple bills that were passed by committee that are eligible to come out on the floor or expected to come out on the floor sometime after the August recess. Seeking an increase in weights on trucks, it’s a ten-year pilot program that would allow a current truck configuration of six axle to go from eighty thousand pounds up to ninety-one thousand pounds on the interstate system.  The Supervisors urge any resident of Washington County also to sign the letter to Congress if they oppose the use of heavier trucks on the county roadways.
