Earlier this month, Jefferson County Health Centers announced it had discovered suspicious activity on its network, which may affect the privacy of certain information.

The incident was first noticed on May 30 of this year. During the subsequent investigation, it was found that an unknown individual gained access to certain systems between April 24 and May 30. As a result, files and information may have been accessed or acquired.

While there is no evidence of any identity theft or fraud in connection with this incident, JCHC is notifying those individuals whose information was present on the system at the time of the incident. Information that may have been present in one of the impacted systems includes social security numbers, health insurance information, medical history, medical treatment information, diagnoses, and date of birth. Letters have been sent to potentially affected individuals which includes a list of specific information for them.

As JCHC continues to review existing security policies and procedures, they encourage everyone to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud. Anyone receiving a letter is advised to review account statements and monitor credit reports for suspicious activity and to detect errors.
