A number of the area’s best baseball players came from the South Iowa Cedar League, as evidenced by three Sigourney Savages and one Keota Eagle that made the All-Southeast District Team in Class 1A this year as voted on by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.
The lone first-team choice is Sigourney sophomore Caden Clarahan, who was also named third team all-state as a pitcher. Clarahan dominated opponents on the mound with a 7-2 record, a 1.47 earned run average and 87 strikeouts racked up in 57 innings of work. But the sophomore also proved to be a powerful presence at the plate, leading the Savages with a .486 batting average, nine doubles, six home runs and 30 runs batted in.
Jake Moore represents Sigourney on the second team as a utility player. The junior tied with Clarahan for the team high with 35 hits and batted .368 with 27 runs scored. Sophomore Brady Clark also makes the second team after the second baseman hit .315 with a team-high 13 stolen bases and scored 20 times.
Keota is represented on the All-Southwest second team by pitcher Aidan Anderson. Despite just a 5-4 record, the senior had a sterling 1.98 ERA and picked up 64 strikeouts in almost 64 innings on the bump.
