While areas of southeast Iowa saw their first significant rainfall in weeks, the drought outlook from the National Drought Mitigation Center shows little change in overall conditions.
Despite slight drops in the last week, more than 97% of both Washington and Louisa Counties remains under severe drought. Henry County saw a drop as well, and sits at 87.69% severe. Meanwhile, the entirety of Jefferson and Johnson Counties are experiencing at least severe drought.
The northwest 18.31% of Jefferson County is under extreme drought, one level higher than severe on the intensity scale. This extreme drought spills into the southern portion of Keokuk County as well. The northern half of Keokuk County and the southwest half of Iowa County are the largest areas of moderate drought, the lowest rating next to abnormally dry.
