The Columbus Junction Public Library was recently announced as one of three Louisa County Libraries to receive the Governor’s STEM Council Scale-Up Award.

The STEM Scale-Up Award focuses on increasing student interest and achievement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, by offering thirteen different programs. Specifically, the Columbus Junction Public Library was awarded the STEM cart, which includes over 100 pre-designed projects that allow youth to build, experiment, and redesign.  

Director for the Columbus Junction Public Library, Mandy Grimm, tells KCII how important it is to have programs like these available to students. “We know that technology has taken over pretty much every industry, and so kids coming out of schools are going to have to have all sorts of digital literacy skills. These are fantastic ways for kids to explore and learn without realizing that they’re learning because it’s fun as well.”

The Columbus Junction Public Library plans to have a new STEM project available for students each week moving forward.
