After another special season on the diamond at Mid-Prairie, three Golden Hawks received Class 2A All-State recognition from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Golden Hawk standout shortstop Karson Grout was a first-team All-State selection. The junior hit .457 with an OBP of .551 and a slug of .762, eighth in 2A. Grout finished with 48 hits, second in 2A, 20 for extra bases, most in 2A including four homers, third in Iowa, drove in 37, fifth in the state and scored 34 times while drawing 18 walks.
A pair of Mid-Prairie seniors earned second team All-State honors. Collin Miller was a second-team pick as a pitcher. He went 7-0, third most wins in 2A, with a 1.68ERA and WHIP of 1.08. In 58 innings, eighth most in 2A, he had a .195 opponent average on 41 hits with 14 earned runs and 74Ks, 10th in 2A for those with 50 innings. At the plate he went for a .224 average with 22 hits, 15 runs scored, 12RBI and 11 walks.
Senior Alex Bean earned a second team All-State spot as an outfielder. Bean hit .375 with 39 total hits, 10th most in 2A. Bean had a .500 OBP, drove in 28, scored 22 times and walked 19. On the mound, he finished 6-2, fourth most wins in 2A, with a 3.50ERA. In 38 innings he had a .199 opponent average on 28 hits, 19 earned runs and 40Ks.
The Hawks won the River Valley Conference championship, their second since 2000, and took home their fourth consecutive district title, finishing with a 27-7 overall record.
