The Sigourney Savages are hoping to build on a breakthrough volleyball season with similar success in 2023. Sigourney went 23-8 last year and was second place in the South Iowa Cedar League. But five senior starters will need to be replaced, including all-conference setter Brookelyn Hemsley, who handed 529 assists to go with 50 kills, 31 serving aces and 236 digs.
A few of the top hitters will return for the Savages this fall, including last year’s kill leader in senior Amiya Smallwood. The middle blocker put 180 kills, 35 aces and a team-high 36 blocks.
Reagan Clarahan also returns with 120 kills and 28 blocks, while fellow junior Josephine Moore comes back and will be looked to affect every area of the game after 137 kills, 49 aces and 372 digs. Sigourney takes on Columbus, Louisa-Muscatine and Burlington Notre Dame as part of the WACO Tournament Monday to start the season.
