A collision involving two vehicles just south of Harper led to a fatality last Friday.

At approximately 9:58 p.m. on August 18, a 2000 Chevrolet Pickup driven by 31-year-old Samuel Dereus of Prairie City was traveling westbound on Iowa 92 near 285th street when the vehicle crossed the centerline. The vehicle struck a 2004 Chevrolet Pickup head on, driven by 74-year-old Franklin Morris of Sigourney.

As a result of the collision, Morris was pronounced dead at the scene. Dereus was flown to  University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics via Aircare. His status is unknown at this time.

The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. They are being assisted by the Keokuk County Sheriff’s Department, Sigourney Fire, Keota Fire, Keokuk County EMS, and U of I Aircare.
