On Saturday, August 19, the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement held their Sale of Champions at the Iowa State Fair. Among those showcasing their animals were Mason Shalla and Avery Shalla of Riverside.

Mason sold his animal, the Grand Champion 4-H Market Steer for $125,000. Not to be outdone, Avery sold her Grand Champion 4-H Meat Goat for $25,000, a new record for the sale.

The Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement retains 25% of the animal’s sale price to help fund scholarships and other programs. This year, they raised a record-$704,500. IFAA awards and scholarships are earned by nearly 200 youth each year.
