KCII News spoke with U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley about the recent Emergency Haying and Grazing the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) issued for many counties in Iowa, “At my farm, we are seven inches short of rain from a year ago. So we’re going to have a shorter crop, and that’s true of grass and hay, and so particularly cow-calf people, don’t have enough feed. It opens it up to make feed available for cow/calf operations, and it’s something we can do to help.” The CRP provides for emergency haying and grazing on certain CRP practices in a county designated as D2 or higher on the U.S. Drought Monitor or in a county where there is at least 40 percent loss in forage production.
