In the United States, long-term care and retirement facilities are subject to regular inspections and evaluations from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In their most recent evaluation, Parkview Home in Wayland improved its rating, earning four out of five stars.

Nursing homes are rated on measures such as health inspections, staffing, and quality. Parkview Home, which has been in operation since 1961, went from three stars to four stars due in large part to the staffing, which was rated much above average. Parkview was above both the State and National average in total number of nurse staff hours per resident per day, registered nurse hours per resident per day, as well as total number of nurse staff hours per resident on the weekend.

Ron Semler, Executive Director for Parkview, credit’s the home’s success not just on the staff, but the community of Wayland. “We would not be Parkview Home without the City and the citizens of Wayland, Iowa. You look at the family support, that’s the tip of the iceberg. Wayland itself produces these people. People that love their family, support each other, and promote each other.”
