The Columbus Wildcats fell in their football season opener at Mediapolis Friday night 33-7. Mediapolis scored two touchdowns in each of the first two quarters to take a commanding 26-0 lead into halftime. Columbus senior running back Kaden Amigon broke up the shutout with a rushing TD in the fourth quarter, part of a night where he ran for 113 yards on 26 carries.
On defense, junior linebacker Riley Kaalberg led the Wildcats with eight tackles, while senior defensive lineman Russell Coil finished with five stops, including two tackles for loss. Columbus will look for the bounce-back from a Week One loss when they take on Wapello this coming Friday.
