The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves suffered a loss in three of their four matches Saturday at the West Branch Volleyball Invitational. WMU won in straight sets to start pool play, defeating Prince of Peace 21-6 and 21-12, but the Wolves were bested by the host West Branch, 21-13 and 21-9, and lost in straight sets to the third-ranked team in Class 1A Don Bosco, 21-12 and 21-15.

Winfield-Mount Union’s day concluded with a straight-sets defeat at the hands of 2A’s fourth-ranked Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, losing 25-14 and 25-16. For the tournament, the Wolves were led by senior hitter Audrie Gipple with 17 kills and three blocks. Gipple also had eight digs on defense and a serving ace.

Senior hitter Kailey Neil finished with four kills, four aces and eight digs. Senior libero Tessa Huston had a team-high 28 digs but also contributed three kills and four aces. Senior setter Aurey Meeker handed out 16 assists while also putting up nine digs and four aces. WMU falls to 1-4 to start the season. The Wolves will next play at the English Valleys Tournament this weekend.
