A conspiracy charge filed against Jefferson County Treasurer Mark Myers was dismissed in court on Monday. The hearing came as part of a lawsuit filed against Myers and Iowa District 44 Senator, Adrian Dickey.
The plaintiffs, Korynn Dickey, Shawna Christy, and Allen Husted, allege that Senator Dickey purchased a vehicle for his daughter in 2020, then forged her signature to place a lien on the vehicle. They further argued that Myers should have recognized the signature was forged, bringing on the conspiracy allegations.
At Monday’s hearing, the court found that there was no set of facts as pled which could support any right to recover based on a finding of civil conspiracy between Mr. Dickey and Myers. Jefferson County Attorney Chauncey Moulding called the allegation “absurd” and went on to commend Myers as “an honest and dedicated public servant”.
While the civil conspiracy charge was dismissed, Count 1, failure to perfect a security interest, was not. The County remains involved in this case due to Count 1, with which they will be filing an answer later this week.
