The Highland Huskies split a pair of games as part of a volleyball triangular Monday night, falling in straight sets at Belle Plaine before knocking off Tri-County. After Highland lost the first set to Belle Plaine 25-16, the Huskies clawed close, but they dropped the second set 25-21.
Highland senior hitter Sarah Burton led the team with five kills, two serving aces, six digs and a block. Seniors Payton Brun and Lorelei Lueck had three kills and a block each, while senior libero Madison Beeson had 10 digs and senior setter Grace Prybil handed out eight assists for the Huskies.
Highland bounced back by edging out Tri-County 25-23 in the first set, and the Huskies rolled past the Trojans in the second set 25-14. Burton again paced Highland with five kills and 11 digs. Junior Adeline Krotz had four kills, while Prybil finished with two kills, four assists and three aces.
Junior setter Laney Skelton dished out six assists to go with two aces and six digs, and Beeson racked up 15 digs on defense to help the Huskies improve to 3-2. Highland next takes on Pekin tomorrow night.
