It was a two-for-one trip north Tuesday for the No. 11 in Class 3A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team. Mid-Prairie traveled to Indpendence and scored a non-conference sweep of the Mustangs and Vinton-Shellsburg. Against the Vikettes, the Hawks were a winner in straight sets 25-18 and 25-17. In the nightcap, the home Mustangs made the Hawks work, taking all three sets, but in the end it was Mid-Prairie 20-25, 28-26 and 15-7.
In total on the night, the Golden Hawks had 84 digs, 63 kills and assists, 15 aces and blocks and served at 89%. Individual leaders included Jovi Evans with 32 assists, Dakota Mitchell’s 31 digs, 20 kills for Harper Pacha, four blocks for Callie Huber, and four aces for Avery Helmuth. The Hawks are now 7-1 this year with a trip to West Branch tonight.
