Sigourney-Keota football is hoping for a bounce-back as they prepare to welcome Mediapolis to the Snake Pit for the 2023 home opener tomorrow night. The Cobras saw a 15-0 lead disappear en route to a 22-15 loss to Prairie City-Monroe last week.
SK will try to produce more offense after putting up only 221 total yards in Week One. Senior quarterback Sawyer Stout led the Cobras with 67 rushing yards but threw two interceptions against PCM.
Sigourney-Keota still looked stout on defense and special teams last week. Along with senior Kale Clarahan recovering a fumble and junior Brady Clark intercepting a pass, junior Issac Bruns returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.
But in order to avoid an 0-2 start to the season, SK will need a repeat of last year’s state playoff win over Mediapolis, where the Cobras edged out the Bulldogs 20-14. Mepo did a little bit of everything well in a 33-7 victory over Columbus last week, including piling up 374 yards of offense. Sigourney-Keota looks to contain Mediapolis, with kickoff set for tomorrow evening at 7.
