English Valleys High School will showcase some of the best small school volleyball in southeast Iowa today when the Bears host their annual tournament. Four schools from the KCII listening area will be among those in action.

Hillcrest Academy comes into the day with a 2-2 overall record. The Ravens were on the wrong of a Thursday sweep at WACO. On the season, team totals for Hillcrest include 50 kills and 47 assists, 110 digs and four blocks, along with 13 aces and a 91% serve efficiency. Individual leaders include, sophomore Claire Withrow with 44 assists, junior Kylee Statler with 15 kills, six aces and three blocks, and junior Malia Yoder with 28 digs.

The Sigourney Savages will also be in North English today. They are 3-2 on the year. Their last match was a three set sweep of Cardinal in Eldon August 24th. Team numbers for the Savages include 57 assists, 64 kills, 146 digs, 22 blocks, 25 aces and a 91% serve efficiency. Individual leaders include senior Ava Fineran with 31 assists, 21 kills and eight blocks for junior Reagan Clarahan, 34 digs for junior Josephine Moore and seven aces for senior Amiya Smallwood.

The WACO Warriors will also take the floor today. They are 2-2 on the season after their Thursday sweep of Hillcrest Academy in Wayland. The Warriors have compiled 26 assists, 31 kills, 79 digs, nine blocks, 18 aces and an 88% serve efficiency. Individual Warrior leaders include senior Meredith Roth with 25 assists, senior Marie Farmer with 10 kills, 18 digs for senior Halle Shelman, and seven aces and four blocks for senior Emma Wagler.

The Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves finish the area quartet at EV Saturday. WMU is 1-4 this season. They were 1-3 at Tuesday’s West Branch tournament, beating Prince of Peace in a sweep before being swept by Don Bosco, Eddyville-Blakesburg and the home Bears. The Lady Wolves have put together 70 kills, 58 assists, 145 digs, 14 blocks, 24 aces and a 93% serve efficiency. Individual leaders include senior Aurey Meeker with 28 assists, senior Audrie Gipple with 28 kills, 50 digs for senior Tessa Huston, six blocks for senior Lily Freeman and six aces each for Meeker and Kailey Neil.

Joining those teams are Cardinal, East Marshall, Tri-County and the home Bears. Action continues all day Saturday at English Valleys High School.
