The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves cruised to a Week Two football victory Friday night, defeating New London 78-16 on the road. WMU wasted little time getting down to business, piling up 42 points before the first quarter was over and leaving no doubt with a 78-0 lead at one point in the fourth period.
The game was another strong outing from new starting quarterback Jake Edwards, who completed seven out of eight pass attempts for 210 yards and four touchdowns. Three of those TDs went to Wolves senior Cam Buffington, totaling 140 yards, while senior Cole Milks led the rushing attack with 170 yards and four scores on the ground on just five carries.
Buffington led the defense with nine total tackles and five tackles for loss. Senior Kael Johnson had three tackles for loss and a sack as Winfield-Mount Union held New London to just 28 running yards and 160 total yards. The Wolves, ranked sixth in the state in 8-man football, also forced two turnovers in improving to 2-0.
