Farmers, farm advisors, and the general public are invited to the Fall Field Day by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. The event will be held on Thursday, September 7 at 1:30 p.m. at the Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm near Crawfordsville.
The field day, which is free to anyone interested, will feature a variety of discussion topics and guest speakers. Topic discussions include linking weather, soils and yield. Field Agronomist for ISU Extension, Rebecca Vittetoe, tells KCII more about it. “With that discussion, we’re going to have a soil pit. We’ll dig down to see what we’re seeing in the soil profile, but also just show, especially with the dry conditions that we had this growing season, how deep did our crop roots actually get, and how that might compare to maybe a normal growing season with more rainfall.” Other discussions will pertain to tips for seeding cover crops, as well as planting soybeans.
Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss concerns and ask questions with each of the speakers, and Certified Crop Advisors can obtain .5 crop management and 1.5 soil and water management continuing education credits. On-site registration begins at the Research Farm at 1 p.m. For more information, email Superintendent Cody Schneider at schn145@iastate.edu.
