On August 31, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office recognized International Overdose Awareness Day, while reminding residents of available resources and support systems in the area.
Your Life Iowa is an organization that offers free, confidential support who can connect families or individuals struggling with addiction to an experienced counselor. Your Life Iowa can be reached by phone at 855-581-8111 or text at 855-895-8398.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office also has drug disposal pouches available for pickup. The pouches safely dispose of medications including pills, patches, liquids, creams, or films. They encourage anyone struggling with addiction or relapse to stop in and speak with a deputy to get help.
The Iowa Good Samaritan Law protects individuals who call 911 in the event of witnessing an overdose. This law generally protects individuals from being arrested, charged, or prosecuted for possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, and calling 911 will not affect parole or probation status.
