The non-district schedule wraps up with a rivalry game Friday under the lights when the Sigourney-Keota Cobras welcome the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks to the Snake Pit.

SK is 1-1 on the year. After dropping their opener at Top 10 in 2A Prairie City Monroe, they bounced back in a big way last week, shutting out Top 10 in 2A Mediapolis 21-0. SK is receiving votes in this week’s Class 1A Associated Press poll. Against the Bulldogs, Isaac Bruns led the ground game with 131 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Jake Moore tossed a touchdown to Brody Greiner. Moore led the defense with seven and a half tackles. Bruns had an interception. On the season, the Snakes average 18 points per game and give up 12. SK puts up 254 yards of offense per game, 197 on the ground. Sawyer Stout is three of 10 in the pass game for 111 yards with two interceptions. Bruns has 177 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries. Top receiver is Cole Kindred with two grabs for 112 yards. Jake Moore has 14 tackles. The Cobras have three takeaways on defense.

Mid-Prairie comes into the night 0-2, after losses to Wilton and Iowa City Regina by a combined 64-19 score to start the season. Last week against the Regals, the Hawks were beaten 51-19. Brady Weber was 10 for 21 through the air for 99 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He also rushed for a touchdown. Gentry Bontrager threw for a score. Blake Swart and Dylan Henry both had scoring grabs. Landon Sullivan had eight and a half tackles for the Golden Hawk defense. Mid-Prairie leaders this year include Weber at 24 of 41 through the air for 213 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions. His favorite target is Cobi Hershberger with eight catches for 83 yards. On the ground, Hudson Ehrenfelt has 37 carries for 160 yards. On defense, Kaden Kos has 21 tackles, the Hawks have two takeaways.

Mid-Prairie took last year’s contest 23-20. SK leads the all-time series at 11-8. Their last win was 42-12 in 2021.
